PARENT’S RIGHTS

JACKSONVILLE PATERNITY LAWYER

My office represents both men and women so that both parents continue to enjoy all of the rights and responsibilities of parenthood, even after divorce. Children need both parents and my office creates timesharing or parenting plans that make sense for both parents and the children. The recent changes to Florida Law in October of 2008 are exciting. We no longer use words such as "custody" or "primary residence" that sound as if one parent has superior rights over the other parent with regard to the children. Now each parent has "timesharing". We will work closely with you to craft a parenting plan that provides for meaningful timesharing for each parent including sharing of summers and holidays, sharing of transportation; decision-making regarding education, extracurricular activities, and religious issues; and any future relocations of one of the parents. We can also create plans that take into account military deployments and change of duty stations. If you and your spouse cannot agree, however, you can be sure that I will put my knowledge and experience as a board certified lawyer and marital and family law expert to use before the Judge to represent you.

If there are issues regarding the safety or welfare of children, we will work with you to promptly notify the Court of such issues and even file emergency motions when necessary. If there are child abuse or domestic violence issues in the home, we can help with that as well.

Even if you and the other parent never were married, my office still can help. If you are the Mother we can help you with obtaining child support, health insurance, and life insurance to provide some financial help for your children. If you are the Father, we can explain your rights including:

  • Birth certificates and voluntary acknowledgments of paternity
  • Filing a Paternity Action and obtaining the right Parenting Plan
  • Filing a Disestablishment of Paternity action if you have been led to believe that you are the father and you are not
  • Help with obtaining DNA testing to prove or disprove paternity
  • Ensuring that your child support is calculated fairly and that you are granted timesharing rights with your children

I represent both men and women and expect that the Court will treat both equally. I represent military and other families in Duval, Clay, Nassau, St. Johns, and Baker Counties. If you are out of country or state, we can often help you over the phone and through email. We can also discuss your appearance by phone at court hearings.

Feel free to email or give me a call. I do not charge a consultation fee so it costs nothing for us to talk and for you to learn your rights. I am confident that after we speak, I will have the pleasure of helping you and your family.
